The Inner Stage / La Scène intérieure explores the private emotional landscapes that linger beneath the surface of the face. Focusing exclusively on the eyes, I approach the gaze as a space where memory, vulnerability, and expectation become visible, even when nothing is spoken.
The series unfolds as an emotional journey. By isolating the gaze and concealing much of the face, The Inner Stage leaves the story incomplete. The viewer is invited to fill that absence with their own memories, interpretations, and emotions. Each painting becomes both stage and mirror: a fragment of someone else’s interior world that may unexpectedly reveal something of our own.
Painted in oil, each pair of eyes emerges from darkness as if illuminated on a stage. The recurring crescent evokes the moon as a symbol of cycles, transformation, and what remains partly hidden, framing each gaze as a glimpse into an interior world. The faces represent a range of ethnicities, resisting a single identity or narrative. Rather than portraying specific individuals, they become vessels for inner states that could belong to any of us.
