About this painting:
Set against a deep red ground reminiscent of theater curtains, Memento Ornata presents a surreal portrait shaped by baroque visual language. A face emerges through a deliberate opening, where embellishment becomes a sign of status and theatrical presence.
In this work, I reflect on ornament as both adornment and obstruction. Gold flourishes intervene across the composition, transforming decoration into a force that both frames and interrupts.
Here, ornament does not merely beautify: it alters perception. Through the tension between realism and embellishment, I consider how aesthetic refinement can simultaneously conceal and elevate, turning the surface into a stage.
