Bonjour,
This series of original drawings and paintings, titled "PIERROT" focus on the iconic French character rooted in the commedia dell’arte (Italian comedy). With his gentle melancholy, he has left an indelible mark on me since a young age.
PIERROT DANS LA LUNE
In Pierrot dans la lune, I depict Pierrot walking with a dreamy, absent-minded expression, embodying the French phrase être dans la lune. As the moonlight overlaps with his figure, Pierrot’s face turns completely white, like a statue, further emphasizing his ethereal presence. His elaborate neck ruffle, reminiscent of a cloud made of paper, contributes furthermore to a sense of detachment, highlighting his separation from reality and reinforcing his melancholic demeanor.
I chose a soft palette of blues and whites to create an introspective mood, with Pierrot’s slightly worried expression hinting at a quiet inner turmoil. His hands are tucked in his pockets, as he wanders through the labyrinth of his own mind. This contrasts beautifully with the geometric backdrop, inspired by hand-painted tiles, where abstraction meets poetic daydreaming.
As you observe Pierrot, lost in his solitary contemplation, do you ever find yourself being "dans la lune," wandering through your own thoughts and daydreams?
