Bonjour,

This series of original drawings and paintings, titled "PIERROT" focus on the iconic French character rooted in the commedia dell’arte (Italian comedy). With his gentle melancholy, he has left an indelible mark on me since a young age.

MON AMI PIERROT

This title immediately evokes the famous French song Au clair de la Lune. Used as a lullaby that probably any francophone would know, this song is deeply embedded in French culture. The first lyric, "Mon ami Pierrot, prête moi ta plume, pour écrire un mot," which translates to "In the moonlight, my friend Pierrot, lend me your quill so I can write a word," resonates within this composition, adding a nostalgic and poetic undertone to the scene.

In this drawing, the row of candles below adds a mystical and theatrical element. The crescent moon, a symbol from the song, enhances the surreal quality of the scene. Pierrot holds also a large feather, a nod to the "plume" from the lyrics, while in his other hand, he offers a small heart with the words "Un mot" (a word). This detail invites you to pause and wonder—what word is Pierrot asking to write? It’s an open-ended question that asks us to reflect on how, sometimes, just one word can carry the weight of an entire story or emotion. How often do we search for that one perfect word to convey how we truly feel? Could it be a word of love, of regret, or of longing? The answer is left to your own interpretation and your own experiences.

This composition invites the viewer to explore themes of creativity, nostalgia, and the delicate nature of communication. The moon, the feather, and "Un mot" all work together to create a visual narrative that reflects this iconic song while also opening up new layers of meaning about the emotional power of words. What would your word be?
