I drew this character by hand and colored it with colored pencils in 2020.
Polichinelle (in French), or Pulcinella (in Italian) is one of the most famous characters of Commedia Dell'Arte.
In this drawing, I drew Polichinelle in his typical French costume from the early 1700s, with his typical leather mask (beak nose), a hunchback and a big belly, a green jacket and red breeches.
Commedia Dell'Arte was an early form of professional theatre, originating in Italy, that was popular throughout Europe between the 16th and 18th centuries.
This illustration was initially a part of a series of costume designs for a show produced by The Royal Swedish Opera, in Stockholm.
