Please feel free to ask any questions! More about the drawing:
I drew this Harlequin by hand and colored it with water soluble markers and colored pencils in 2021.
Harlequin (in English), Arlecchino (in Italian) or Arlequin (in French) is probably the most famous characters of Commedia Dell'Arte.
In this drawing, I drew Harlequin in his typical costume (made of patches of different colors) and mask, and he's disguised as gem merchant. This disguise is inspired by a French engraving from the 17th century.
Commedia Dell'Arte was an early form of professional theatre, originating in Italy, that was popular throughout Europe between the 16th and 18th centuries.
This illustration was initially a part of a series of costume designs for a 18th century comic intermezzo produced by the Boston Early Music Festival.
