Bonjour,
This series of original drawings and paintings, titled "PIERROT" focus on the iconic French character rooted in the commedia dell’arte (Italian comedy). With his gentle melancholy, he has left an indelible mark on me since a young age.
PIERROT ET L'ABSENCE
In Pierrot et l'Absence, I wanted to capture Pierrot’s delicate, melancholic nature. He stands under a softly glowing moon, embracing not a physical figure but perhaps a memory. The geometric pattern in the background, inspired by hand-painted tiles, envelops Pierrot in a space where emotions and memories coexist, blurring the lines between reality and abstraction.
The muted tones of white and blue evoke a serene yet sorrowful atmosphere, aligning with Pierrot’s deep longing and sense of loss. The moon, embracing him, feels like a distant comfort, further highlighting his solitude. This is a moment of introspection, where Pierrot seems lost in his thoughts, searching for solace in the night sky. What do you think Pierrot is yearning for in this moment—an absent love, a nostalgic memory, or something else intangible within himself?
Through this painting, I wanted to explore the duality of presence and absence. The moon’s hold adds a layer of emotional depth, amplifying Pierrot’s yearning for something—or someone—that is no longer there, yet continues to retain him. The title, Pierrot et l'Absence, speaks to this sorrow, the tension between what is and what once was, inviting you into Pierrot’s world of poetic melancholy. In moments of solitude, what is it that you find yourself longing for or embracing—someone, something, or perhaps a part of yourself?
